The chief of the Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, has explained the key to his agency's high efficiency.
"There is no secret here. We have a responsibility. This is something that, excuse me, was buried by the old elites in this state. Personal responsibility. If you do something, we give you everything. But if you don't do your job well, no-one will excuse you," Budanov said at the discussion panel "2024: Challenges and Prospects", held as part of a joint project by LB.ua and EFI Group.
According to Budanov, this the criterion his agency uses to purge its ranks.
"Our approaches can be considered tough, but they work. I was forced to dismiss many professional officers, regardless of their previous achievements, regalia, or anything else. And not only dismiss them. Nothing will change without personal responsibility. If a person is guilty and not held accountable, it is a motivating factor for everyone else not to do the right thing," he concluded.
