A court has transferred to the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA) the property of the head of the Rivne regional territorial centre for recruitment and social support, who is suspected of illicit enrichment and beating a soldier with a bat.
According to the State Investigation Bureau (SBI), the total value of the transferred property is estimated at UAH 51.7 million [$1.39 million].
The following assets were confiscated:
· a land plot in the village of Polyanytsya, Ivano-Frankivsk Region, with a residential building of 280 sq. m;
· seven houses with a total area of almost 500 sq m in the same ski resort;
· a land plot in the village of Lanchyn, Ivano-Frankivsk Region, with an area of approximately half a hectare and a 316 sq m house.
· two lorries.
The military commissar is currently in custody, he was denied bail.
He could face up to 12 years in prison.
The investigation into the official began in July 2023 after he beat a subordinate soldier with a bat. The colonel and lieutenant colonel learned that the driver of a rifle company in one of the military units of the Rivne district manning centre planned to report their violations during service. They decided to prevent this and beat the man. The head of the regional recruitment office beat the soldier himself, while the head of the district recruitment office filmed the whole thing on his phone.
During the investigation, the SBI found a lot of real estate and vehicles registered to distant relatives of the official.
At the end of October 2023, the SBI notified the military commissar of suspicion of acquiring assets worth more than his legitimate income by a person authorised to perform state functions.
In addition to the confiscated assets, the military commissar also "forgot" to declare assets worth UAH 46 million.
