A listening device was found in the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyy. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Yesterday, during a routine inspection of the premises, elements of equipment for capturing information were found in one of the locations. The listening devices were installed in the offices intended for the work of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and employees of the apparatus for supporting his activities," the statement said.

The General Staff noted that the Security Service of Ukraine has been notified to establish the circumstances of the incident, its consequences and the persons involved.

  • Yesterday, UP journalists reported that a wiretapping device was found in Zaluzhnyy's office. Also, according to the newspaper, listening devices were found on Zaluzhnyy's employees.
  • The SBU later confirmed the discovery of the device. The SBU opened criminal proceedings under Article 359, Part 2 (illegal acquisition, sale or use of special technical means of obtaining information) of the Criminal Code. According to preliminary data, the found device was in a non-operational state. No means of accumulating information or remote transmission of audio recordings were found.
  • Former Deputy Minister of Defence Hanna Malyar stated that there had been previous cases of leaking of classified information from headquarters, which resulted in military secrets becoming public. She commented on the bugging of offices and noted that "working in high positions is a priori work under constant surveillance".
