Russian attack causes casualties, damage to houses, metro in Kyiv

Damage was reported in several districts of Kyiv as a result of the Russian attack.

After 4 p.m., the State Emergency Service reported that the body of a sixth person had been recovered from the rubble of a warehouse building. Eight people were rescued.

As of 3.35 p.m., the Kyiv city authorities reported that rescuers had found the body of one more person, bringing the death toll to five.

After 2 p.m., the body of the fourth victim was found. Another 30 people were injured. At 1.07 p.m., Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that the body of the third victim was found under the rubble of the warehouse.

At 12:37, the mayor knew of two dead. As of 11.37 a.m., one person was known to be dead, said Kyiv city military administration head Serhiy Popko.

There were 28 injured (at least 20 of them hospitalised).

"Twenty-eight people were injured in the morning attack on the capital. One person was killed. Twenty-five of the injured were hospitalised in the city's medical institutions. Three were treated on the spot. Four people were freed from the rubble of a warehouse in Shevchenkivskyy district. The search and rescue operation there is still ongoing," Klitschko wrote.

"Today, the enemy conducted one of the most massive air strikes on the territory of Ukraine. The enemy used Shahed barrage munitions, Kh-22/Kh-32 cruise missiles from Tu-22M3 strategic bombers, ballistic missiles, S-300, Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 MS strategic bombers, and Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from Mig-31K. The air alert was declared in Kyiv three times and lasted almost 5 hours in total. During the last alert, the capital was hit by several dozen missiles of various types. They hit the city in waves and from different directions. Over three dozen air targets were hit by air defence forces and equipment over Kyiv. Unfortunately, as a result of such a massive missile attack, there is destruction and casualties in the capital," said Popko.

As of 9:06 a.m., a warehouse in Podilskyy district was on fire over an area of approximately 3,000 sqm.
