Although a number of Ukrenergo facilities and regional power distribution companies in Kyiv region were hit by missiles on 2 January, Russia failed to pose a critical threat to Ukraine's energy system, Ukrenergo board chairman Volodymyr Kudrytskyy has told the national telethon.

"Today, a number of Ukrenergo facilities and regional power distribution companies in Kyiv region were hit, which caused certain interruptions in power supply. We quickly restored the necessary equipment in just a few hours, and today most consumers in Kyiv and neighbouring settlements have reliable power supply. The city's water supply system has also been restored," said Kudrytskyy.

Despite certain difficulties due to the damage to Ukrenergo's facilities, the attack did not pose a critical threat to the operation of the power system.

"So we cannot talk about the introduction of a state of emergency at the moment. The power system as a whole is operating in a balanced manner. And, in fact, we have been dealing with the local consequences of the hits to power facilities since early morning. I have recently visited one of the affected power facilities myself. All equipment is already in operation there, and I think that if any of the consumers in Kyiv region and Kyiv city still do not have power supply, its restoration is a matter of just a few hours," Kudrytskyy said.

Earlier it was reported that due to the consequences of the massive missile attack, there were damages to the grids of Ukrenergo and regional power companies in Kyiv and the region. More than 250,000 consumers temporarily lost power supply.
