Ukraine shoots down 26 out of 59 Russia-launched targets, Zaluzhnyy says

Not all of the Russian missiles that failed to be shot down reached their targets.

At night and in the morning of 8 January, the Russian army fired 59 missiles and attack drones against Ukrainians. Air defence managed to shoot down 26 targets.

The Russians used cruise missiles, aircraft, ballistic missiles, anti-aircraft guided missiles and attack drones. The ballistic missiles were fired at Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhya and Khmelnytskyy Regions, said C’n’C Valeriy Zaluzhnyy.

The Russians fired:

  • 8 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk area
  • 7 S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles from the Belgorod Region
  • 4 X-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles from four MiG-31K aircraft (launch area - Ryazan, Tambov)
  • 24 X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles from 11 Tu-95MS strategic bombers (launch area - Engels)
  • 8 X-22 cruise missiles from Tu-22M3 bombers from Belgorodskaya
  • 6 Iskander-M ballistic missiles from Dzhankoy and Chauda - Crimea
  • 2 X-31P guided missiles from tactical aircraft (launch area - Belgorod Region).

"This time the enemy attacked different Regions of Ukraine. In particular, the enemy fired ballistic missiles at Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhya and Khmelnytskyy Regions," said the Zaluzhnyy.

The air defence system shot down:

  • 8 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs
  • 18 X-101/X-555/X-55 cruise missiles.

The Air Force added that not all of the enemy missiles that failed to be shot down reached their targets.
