President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with President of Poland Andrzej Duda, Zelenskyy's press service has said.

Zelenskyy thanked Poland for its consistent and unwavering support of Ukraine and being its staunch ally on the path to joining the EU and NATO.

"Our common border should be a real European border. A border of unity. There should be no borders between our peoples," Zelenskyy stressed.

He also noted Poland's support for the EU's historic decision to start negotiations with Ukraine.

Zelenskyy and Duda also discussed the issue of ensuring financial and political support for Ukraine from the EU.

They also exchanged views on the upcoming NATO Summit in Washington and the expected decisions of the Alliance. The presidents discussed cooperation in the defence sector with a focus on the key needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

Zelenskyy informed his counterpart about the recent massive Russian missile attacks on the territory of Ukraine, which led to the deaths of civilians and the destruction of civilian facilities, and stressed the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defence to create a reliable air shield.

He also raised the issue of Poland's accession to the Joint Declaration of the Group of Seven leaders on security guarantees for Ukraine.

The presidents also discussed the schedule of further bilateral contacts.

Earlier, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov and his Polish counterpart Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz discussed the situation at the frontline and the recent terrorist attacks by Russia.
