Lithuania will provide Ukraine with a new long-term aid package worth €200 million and send new ammunition in January. Kyiv and Vilnius have also signed agreements on joint arms production, President Gitanas Nausėda said at a briefing on the occasion of the Ukrainian president's visit.

This month, Ukraine will receive ammunition, generators, and detonation systems, and in February, M577 armoured personnel carriers. Lithuania will also help train Ukrainian soldiers.

"The European defence industry as a whole needs to step up its game, accelerate and respond adequately to the challenging security situation. Lithuania is forming a coalition for demining to mobilise military support for Ukraine as efficiently and quickly as possible. The Western world needs to understand that this is not just a struggle of Ukraine alone, it is a struggle of the whole of Europe and the democratic world for peace and freedom. Important decisions were made in Vilnius last July to bring NATO and Ukraine closer together," Nausėda said.

According to him, the question is not whether Ukraine will become a NATO member, but when.
