Ukraine has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the Global Peace Summit, Reuters reports.

Deputy head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva stressed that Beijing's participation in such an event is important for Kyiv.

"We certainly invite China to participate in the summit, at the highest level, at the level of the President of the People's Republic of China. China's participation will be very important for us. We are working with the Chinese side. We are engaging our partners in the world to convey to the Chinese side how important it is to participate in such a summit," Zhovkva said.

China has close ties with Russia and has refrained from criticising its invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, Beijing says that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected. Earlier, China offered to mediate in the Russian-Ukrainian war.

  • The summit will be held in Switzerland. Preparations for the event are currently underway, but it is not yet known when it will take place.
  • This month, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Kyiv is seeking to organise a telephone conversation between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Xi Jinping.
