Ukraine has informed the European Commission about the situation with the blockade of the Polish-Ukrainian border and expects a strong reaction from its partners, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna has said, according to Yevropeyska Pravda.
"We have informed the European Commission about the situation on the Ukrainian-Polish border, in particular the creation of obstacles to passenger traffic. This is unacceptable," Stefanishyna said.
According to her, the Joint Coordination Platform on Exports and Transit of Ukrainian Agricultural Products, initiated by Ukraine, is to meet in Brussels on 20 February.
"We expect a clear response from our European partners to the blocking of the border and the restoration of public order at the border," Stefanishyna added.
What is known about the border blockade
Polish farmers have resumed protests after the European Commission recommended extending the "economic visa-free regime" with Ukraine for another year.
In addition to the ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine, Polish protesters oppose European agricultural policy, in particular, the introduction of the so-called green system, which includes a number of environmental and climate requirements. The demands also include support for livestock farming.
Starting from 20 February, Polish farmers will block all border crossings between Poland and Ukraine, according to a statement by the Solidarity trade union. In particular, "not only border crossings, but also communication hubs and access roads to railway stations and seaports will be blocked".
