There were malfunctions in the operation of the portal for online voting on 15 March, the day of the Russian presidential election, hromadske reported, citing sources in the special services.

Cyber specialists from the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry were behind the attacks.

"The information is true. The cyber specialists of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence are at work," the sources confirmed.

Failures were reported in several regions of Russia. For example, a large-scale malfunction occurred on the state portal Gosuslugi. Residents of Moscow, Tyumen, Novosibirsk and other regions could not access the website.

On 14 March, Rostelecom CEO Mikhail Oseevsky made a statement complaining that Russia was waging a cyber war with Ukrainian intelligence, which "has been trying to destroy the entire infrastructure created for the elections for a long time".
