European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson has said that the EU is preparing for a possible sudden cut-off of Russian gas supplies.
Simson said this during a briefing in Kyiv, Yevropeyska Pravda reports.
The contract between Ukraine and Russia on the transit of natural gas expires at the end of 2024. That is why the EU wants to coordinate its actions with Ukraine in this regard.
"We knew that Russia was not a reliable gas supplier, and all our risk assessments were designed in such a way that Europe could be left without Russian gas supplies in a moment," Simson said, noting that the EU had been preparing for this situation for two years.
