The government is preparing to raise electricity tariffs for households. According to RBC-Ukraine, tomorrow the Cabinet of Ministers will raise the tariff for those who use more than 100 kW, and the price increase will be 80%.

For consumers below this level, the tariff will remain the same at UAH 2.64/kWh from 1 June. But for those who exceed it, the cost will be UAH 4.8 /kWh.

According to the source, a draft decision on this is already ready, and the government plans to approve it tomorrow.

With a consumption of 100 kW per month, the amount of electricity in the bill will not change and will be UAH 264.

If the consumption is 200 kW, the amount will increase to UAH 744 (with the current tariff, it is UAH 528). With a consumption of 300 kW, the payment will be UAH 1,224 (at the current tariff, it is UAH 792), the journalists calculated.

According to them, various options were considered when preparing the decision. This included raising the tariff to UAH 3.96 /kWh.

New electricity tariff

  • On 10 May, the Ministry of Energy reported that it was discussing an increase in electricity tariffs.
  • On 14 May, Ruslan Slobodyan, head of the State Energy Supervision Inspectorate of Ukraine, said that the decision to raise electricity prices for household consumers had not yet been made. There are no exact calculations for the tariff increase yet. The head of the State Energy Supervision Service added that last year's electricity tariff increase allowed the country to prepare for autumn and winter and restore three GW of power generating capacity. Now, Ukraine needs to restore eight gigawatts after new Russian strikes.
  • The Energy Ministry then added that the new electricity tariff should be made affordable. According to Deputy Minister Kolisnyk, in addition to raising the tariff, the government is working to attract international partners to repair work.
  • Last year, on 1 June, the electricity tariff increased from UAH 1.68 per kWh to UAH 2.64. This price will remain in effect at least until 31 May.
