The Russian military brutally shot two Ukrainian prisoners of war near Robotyno in the Zaporizhzhya sector. The video of the execution was posted on the Internet on 10 July.

Proceedings have been initiated over the reported fact of another execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war. This was reported by Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

"The terrorist country Russia continues to demonstrate complete disregard for the law and basic human morality. Another proof of this is the video of the killing of two captured Ukrainian soldiers by the Russian military. The footage clearly shows that the defenders of Ukraine laid down their arms and offered no resistance. The occupiers cynically shoot unarmed people," said Andriy Kostin.

According to the investigation, the crime was committed in June 2024 near the village of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhya Region. At the same time, a video of the brutal shooting of two Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military appeared on the Internet on 10 July.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated over the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder.

"We know that this is no accident. This is a deliberate policy of the Kremlin's criminal regime to destroy everything Ukrainian. We will find and punish all those involved: both those who gave this criminal order and the direct perpetrators of this brutal crime," the Prosecutor General added.

Under the procedural supervision of the Zaporizhzhya Regional Prosecutor's Office, investigators of the SBU Office in the region are conducting a pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets responded to the latest atrocities committed by the Russians. According to him, the video shows about ten shots fired at unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.

"This is another filmed war crime, for which there must be responsibility. And another fact of violation by the Russians of the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law, which are regularly violated by the Russian Federation - from ordinary soldiers to military leaders who do not prohibit the killing and execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war," the Ombudsman stressed.

Dmytro Lubinets sent official letters to the UN and the ICRC to ensure that the organisations record the numerous killings of disarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers. "There must be punishment for all the crimes committed on our land and against our people!”
