The recent attack by the Defence Forces and the downing of Russian bombers at the Olenya airbase have delayed the next massive strikes on Ukraine for several days.

This was stated by the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov.

The head of the Ukrainian intelligence agency stressed that Russia's main task remains to gain control over Ukraine by any means necessary.

"The minimum task, and it is the only one so far, is to reach the administrative borders of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions. It has never changed," Budanov wrote.

And the Russian attempt to create a so-called "buffer zone" in the Kharkiv Region has failed, so it is only a matter of time before the Russians stay in the occupied territory.

  • On the night of Saturday, 27 July, drones of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine struck a Russian long-range strategic bomber TU-22M3 at the Olenya airfield in Russia.
  • The first explosions occurred around six in the morning local time. Social media reports that they heard the sounds of at least three explosions. Local users also posted a video of drones flying towards the airfield and a picture of a column of black smoke rising above the military facility.
  • This airfield is home to the 43rd centre for the combat use and retraining of Russian aircrew. In particular, Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, Tu-134UBL and Il-78 aircraft are based there, and an aircraft repair plant is located.
