SBU thwarts FSB agents in six regions planning attacks

The Security Service of Ukraine's counterintelligence service has neutralised a large-scale FSB agent network that was preparing Russia's missile, bomb and drone strikes in six regions of Ukraine.

This was reported by the SBU press service.

As a result of a multi-stage special operation, 9 Russian agents were simultaneously detained in Dnipro, Zaporizhzhya and Sumy, as well as in Donetsk, Odesa and Kirovohrad Regions.

For the sake of secrecy, the suspects acted separately, but were "locked in" to one FSB officer. The SBU has already identified him.

On the instructions of the Russian special service officer, the agents collected coordinates for the fire attack on the Defence Forces and critical infrastructure facilities.

A Russian spy ring, which included two officials, was targeting critical infrastructure in Ukraine. A Dnipro city council member and a department head in the Yuzhne city council provided information about air defense systems and substations in their respective regions. Other agents were gathering intelligence on Ukrainian military positions near Pokrovsk, Chasiv Yar, and Kurakhove.

The group of Russian agents also included two managers, a university student and a former police officer. The managers and the student tracked the movements of Ukrainian troops, while the former officer reported on the aftermath of a Russian attack on a Ukrainian hydroelectric power station. All were active participants in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels before being remotely recruited by the FSB. They communicated with their handler using anonymous chatbots.

The offenders are in custody. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Donetsk Region Prosecutor's Office.
