Police in Khmelnytskyy Region are investigating the circumstances of an accident involving a passenger bus with children. One child and one adult who was accompanying the children's group died as a result of the accident.
The accident occurred today, 13 August, at 07:45 a.m. on the H-03 motorway near the village of Vyshnopil in the Starokostyantyniv territorial community.
The driver of a LAZ Liner bus was transporting a group of children accompanied by two adults from the village of Lyubar, Zhytomyr Region, to the village of Mykulychyn, Ivano-Frankivsk Region. According to preliminary data, he lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. In total, there were 23 people on the bus, including 19 children, two adults accompanying the group and two drivers.
A twelve-year-old girl and one adult died as a result of the accident. The number of injured is being established. All the victims were hospitalised.
The issue of registering the incident in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine is being settled.
The examination of the scene and documentation of the accident consequences are ongoing.
For its part, the prosecutor's office reported that it had initiated a pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings over violation of traffic safety rules by a person driving a vehicle, which resulted in the death of several people (part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, on 13 August, at around 7:30 a.m., an accident occurred near the village of Vyshnopil in the Starokostiantynivska territorial community.
The driver of a LAZ Liner bus was transporting a group of children, accompanied by two adults, from the village of Lyubar, Zhytomyr Region, to the village of Mykulychyn, Ivano-Frankivsk Region. In total, there were 21 people on the bus, including 17 children. The driver lost control and the vehicle overturned.
The accident killed a 12-year-old girl and a teacher who was accompanying the group. 16 children were taken to medical facilities. One child and the bus driver are in intensive care in serious condition.
A set of investigative actions is currently underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
