About 20,000 people from 28 settlements need to be evacuated in Sumy Region.
This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
"During a regular meeting of the Defence Council of Sumy Region, it was decided to evacuate the population from 28 settlements in seven united territorial communities of this area.
According to preliminary estimates, about 20,000 people need to be evacuated. Rescuers, representatives of communities, military administrations and law enforcement officers are involved in the evacuation," the statement said.
Evacuation teams are transporting and escorting people, including families with children, people with limited mobility and the elderly. Police officers are escorting the evacuation convoys, ensuring law and order at preliminary assembly points, and assisting the citizens.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 270 people have died in Sumy Region, including 14 children. Over the past two months, six people, including a child, have been killed in the region as a result of shelling," the police said.
