During a briefing, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk called the bill banning the UOC-MP not just a historical decision, but ‘a legislative mechanism that breaks the 339-year influence of the Russian church over the Ukrainian church.’
This was reported by LB.ua.
‘This is a historic decision not only in that it has reached the level of legislation, but also in that it offers a legislative mechanism that breaks the 339-year influence of the Russian Church over the Ukrainian religion,’ Stefanchuk said.
The speaker stressed that this bill is really of high quality, as it was supported without discussion.
‘This was preceded by important hard work that we have done over these three weeks. We worked with committees, together with representatives of other factions. We had a real discussion, not a political one, but about the legal mechanism of what we have voted for today,’ the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada added.
Stefanchuk also noted the work of MPs on draft laws on military support.
‘This is a number of laws, including the deprivation of status. This is support for Ukrainian soldiers operating outside the territory of Ukraine. This is a whole range of laws that allow those legionnaires who are fighting for Ukraine to obtain citizenship. And a number of other legislative acts that were voted in the Verkhovna Rada today,’ he added.
Stefanchuk stressed that it was another productive day in the Verkhovna Rada.
