In the morning of 2 September, the Russian army launched another massive attack. Explosions were heard in Kyiv and Kharkiv, local authorities said.

According to preliminary data, Russians fired ballistic missiles at the capital. Several districts have been hit, Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said.

As a result of the missile strike, debris fell in Holosiyivskyi, Svyatoshynskyy, Dniprovskyy and Shevchenkivskyy districts, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Serhiy Popko, wrote on Telegram. Debris was also recorded falling in Podil, Desnyanskyy, Obolonskyy, Dniprovskyy and Solomyanskyy districts, with no consequences.

According to the mayor, as of 6:25 a.m., three adults had already sought medical assistance, two of whom were hospitalised.

In Svyatoshyn district, four cars were burning at one of the places where the wreckage fell, and the fire has now been extinguished. In addition, a fire broke out in a two-storey non-residential building in Svyatoshyn district on an area of 700 square metres. Shops near the Svyatoshyn metro station and the windows of the metro station building were damaged. The station is still open.

A boiler house was damaged in Holosiyivskyy district. The fire has been extinguished.

A fire broke out on the territory of an enterprise in Shevchenkivskyy district. An area of 600 square metres was on fire. The structures are being dismantled.

"This morning, as a result of another massive missile attack on Kyiv by Russian barbarians, the building of the Islamic Cultural Centre of the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (mosque in Nyvky) was significantly damaged. The building of the Islamic Centre, especially the mosque located in it, will need repairs," said Refat Chubarov, head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

According to Popko, the attack was a combined one.

"Cruise missiles, (potentially X-101) were most likely launched around 3 a.m. from Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Saratov Region of Russia. These missiles approached Kyiv after complex manoeuvres, from the south. Simultaneously with the approach of cruise missiles to the capital, the enemy fired KN-24/Iskander-M ballistic missiles at Kyiv and its suburbs. One attack UAV was added to the mix. The air defence forces and means destroyed more than a dozen cruise missiles and about a dozen ballistic missiles and an attack drone in the airspace of the capital! An incredibly large number of ballistic missiles at the same time!" he wrote.

Almost simultaneously with the attack on the capital, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported an explosion in Kharkiv at 5:31 a.m.

"An explosion was heard in Kharkiv again. We are investigating whether it was in the city or on its outskirts," he said.

This is not the first attack in the city overnight - after midnight, Russians struck with Shahed drones. Houses and other civilian infrastructure were damaged, Oleh Synyehubov, head of the RMA, wrote on Telegram.

"In the Industrial district, a missile strike (type to be determined) caused a fire in a gardening community. There is no information about casualties or injuries," Terekhov later clarified

  • On Friday, Russians killed six people in Kharkiv and wounded 97.
  • On 1 September, Russians wounded 47 people in the city.
  • Kyiv suffered several attacks last week. There was debris falling in different districts.
