Ukraine has launched an online marriage service through the Diia app
This was announced by Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhaylo Fedorov.
‘We are launching online marriage in Diia. Only in Ukraine can you go through the full cycle of marriage - from filing an application, marriage online and receiving a certificate in the app. You no longer need to go anywhere, collect documents, or put them in a file to become husband and wife. Now it's just a few clicks in Diia,’ he wrote.
‘Thanks to online marriage, military personnel and couples who are far away from each other will be able to get married despite the circumstances, distance between cities or even countries. Join a digital ceremony with a registrar wherever you want. Decide whether you want to change your surname, keep yours or take a double surname right in the app,’ the minister added.
The entire marriage process will take about 30 minutes, the certificate will immediately appear in Diia, and the paper version will be sent by post.
‘A creative way to surprise your soul mate is to propose in Diia. Check with your loved ones how it works right now,’ said Fedorov.
He also added that online marriage is just the beginning, the basis for the digitalisation of other services that will soon be available in Diia.
Marriage through Diia
On 30 March, the Government adopted a resolution on online marriage registration. To get married online, you will need to take several steps:
- Submit an application in the app
- An employee of the Civil Registry Office conducts the wedding ceremony via video link
- The newlyweds sign the marriage certificate with Diia.Signature.
Recently, the Diia portal has made it possible to submit an application for state registration of marriage and immediately choose the place, time, format, and hall where the ceremony will take place. In this case, the newlyweds only had to come to the registry office to register their marriage. As of August, Ukrainians had filed more than 30,000 marriage applications.
In June, the first three couples got married via video link through Diia.
It is worth noting that military personnel, police officers, healthcare workers and other specified categories can register a marriage online, without personal presence. Registration can also be certified by a marriage certificate drawn up directly by the commander/supervisor at the place of service/work, or by the head of a healthcare facility.
As of June last year, 3,328 remote marriages have been registered in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.
