The Swiss Parliament has recognised the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
This was announced by the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk on Facebook.
‘The National Council of Switzerland in its statement recognises systematic actions aimed at mass and deliberate murder by starvation with the intention of destroying a national, ethnic, racial or religious group as an act of genocide,’ Stefanchuk wrote.
He noted that this is a truly historic decision and a very important step towards restoring historical justice and preserving the memory of millions of innocent victims.
‘I am grateful to the Swiss Parliament for recognising the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people,’ Stefanchuk said.
To date, the Holodomor has been recognised as genocide of the Ukrainian people by the parliaments of 29 countries.
