A serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was probably injured while performing a combat mission in the Bakhmut district.

In the Bakhmut direction near New York, Russian occupants allegedly shot a wounded Ukrainian serviceman. The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation.

This was reported by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.

‘Under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings over the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),’ the statement said.

According to intelligence reports, the Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman was probably wounded while performing a combat mission in Bakhmut district. After some time, the building he was in was seized by the occupiers, and he was taken prisoner. 

"They shot the unarmed defender, who was lying on the ground. Preliminary, it happened on 6 September 2024, around 10:00, near the Phenol Plant in the village of New York," the prosecutor's office said. 

The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.
