Norway will soon provide Ukraine with six F-16 fighter jets.

This was announced by Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.

He held bilateral talks with Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram during the NATO-Ukraine Council.

‘We discussed the current situation at the frontline and our needs, in particular in long-range weapons. We reached specific agreements on strengthening our air defence. A separate focus is the aviation component. In particular, strengthening our capabilities with F16 fighters. Norway will continue its support and provide Ukraine with six aircraft in the near future,’ Umerov said.

The ministers also discussed the development of the Ukrainian defence industry. Umerov invited Norway to join the ‘Danish model’ of direct financing of Ukrainian defence companies.

In addition, the defence minister suggested that Norway take over the patronage of one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' brigades, similar to the French model, including training and manning.

‘New announcements are coming soon,’ the minister added.
