President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about the reaction of partners to one of the points of the Victory Plan, which provides Ukraine with a package of long-range deterrent weapons in case Russia does not want to end its aggression.
He was told that this would be an "escalation," the president said in an interview with the Nordic media. The president did not specify which partner he heard this answer from.
"When many countries started to support the Victory Plan - you see what is happening in the media - they said that Ukraine wanted a lot of missiles, like Tomahawks and others. But this was confidential information between Ukraine and the White House. How to understand these messages? It means that there is nothing confidential between the partners," he said.
Yesterday, the New York Times reported that Ukraine had asked the United States to give it Tomahawk missiles, citing anonymous US officials.
The Victory Plan has three secret annexes with a list of things Ukraine needs, including weapons. Only top-level allies were supposed to know about their contents.
