Military medic Anton Shevchuk with the call sign ‘Rastishka’ was killed in action, Novynarnya reports, citing friends and relatives of the deceased soldier.

The man was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity and joined the army in 2014.

The tragic news was reported, in particular, by Ukrainian poet and soldier Oksana Rubanyak.

‘Kind, sincere, simple and open. Funny and cheerful. Rastishka... Thank you for being in my life. For our joint service and companionship. Thank you for you. You are one of the few people I will miss,’ she wrote on her Facebook page.

At the beginning of the year, Slidstvo.info reported that Chief Medical Officer Anton Shevchuk, who reported the poor quality of the turnstiles, was transferred to a lower position in another unit. The soldier also said that they tried to bring him to justice for allegedly leaving the unit without permission while he was in hospital.

‘Rastishka tried to join the army after the start of Russia's invasion, but was not included in the first wave of mobilisation. It was only in May 2014 that he joined the ranks of the 25th Battalion of Territorial Defence ‘Kyivan Rus’.

Since August of that year, Anton has served in the area of Debaltseve. During his time in the Ukrainian army, the man saved many of his comrades-in-arms as head of the 59th Brigade's medical company and evacuation and triage unit.

During his first three years at the front, he was injured twice, including a severe spinal injury. However, after recovery, he returned to his comrades in arms.

In 2018, Anton Shevchuk was promoted to the rank of Captain of Medical Service. As of August 2023, Anton Shevchuk was the head of the medical service of the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Recently, MP Bezuhla announced the transfer of some military medics to the ‘infantry’. Instead, the General Staff assured that military medics are not being ‘transferred to the infantry’ and will continue to work in their respective specialities.
