All dictatorships in the world are now closely watching Russia's attack on Ukraine, said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
This is a war - a war against the system of values and democracy, against human rights and truth, said the head of the Canadian government at the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of the Peace Formula, which began yesterday in Montreal. He added that the Ukrainian system of values, which has been attacked by Russia, is shared by the world.
“At first, we were shocked by the situation, but we quickly regained our footing and took action. Guided by democratic principles, we realised we had to stand up and fight totalitarianism,” Trudeau said.
He believes that all democracies in the world are currently undergoing trials.
"Someone will say: we have our own problems, we don't need to worry about Ukraine. But this is exactly what the Kremlin wants," the Prime Minister added.
He called on the world to redouble its efforts to defeat the aggressor. Trudeau added that Canada supports the ten-point peace formula and supports it without exception.
Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of the Peace Formula
This is the largest conference dedicated to humanitarian issues this year. It was jointly organised by Ukraine, Canada and Norway, and representatives of about 70 countries and international organisations have confirmed their participation. The event is dedicated to the point of the Peace Formula on the release and return of captured and deported Ukrainians, including children.
The Peace Formula is a Ukrainian proposal presented by the President in November 2022 at the Group of 20 summit. The document is the basis for peace summits, the first of those took place in Switzerland in the summer. The summit discussed three points of the formula: food security, energy security, release of POWs and return of deportees. Now Ukraine and its partners are working on these points and holding thematic conferences to unite efforts to address these issues.
