US President Donald Trump will soon appoint a special representative for Ukraine to lead negotiations to end the war with Russia.

Fox News reports this with reference to its sources.

‘You're going to see a very high-ranking special envoy, a person of great authority who will be tasked with finding a solution, reaching a peaceful settlement,’ one of the sources said.

This job is not expected to be paid. The publication recalled that from 2017 to 2019, Kurt Volker served as a special representative in the Ukrainian negotiations on a voluntary basis.

Earlier, Trump also announced new appointments to his team.

US Special Representative for Ukraine

  • In the Barack Obama administration, Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland was in charge of Ukraine. After the change of president, the United States could not decide on her successor for a long time and eventually appointed former US Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker in July 2017.
  • In September 201, Volker resigned - a day after a whistleblower complaint was made public, describing that he had tried to ‘contain the damage’ caused by Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani in his attempts to pressure Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
  • After that, it was reported that his successor could be former CIA officer Michael Kostiv. However, in July, it became known that the State Department would abolish the post of special envoy for Ukraine.
