US President-elect Donald Trump said that his team is working to "end the war" in Ukraine and noted "some progress".

He made this statement during a speech in Palm Beach, Florida, reports Yevropeyska Pravda.

"We have made some progress. The situation is complex and difficult. People are being killed on a scale that no one has ever seen before," Trump said.

The politician added that what is happening in the war in Ukraine is "much worse than it is reported, for both sides".

"We have to act as best we can, we have been acting as best we can. We will see what happens. Since the election, we've been working every day so that the world can have a little bit of a break, so that we can get rid of wars," Trump said.

He also criticised the Joe Biden administration's authorisation for Ukraine to launch long-range strikes on Russian territory.

The US president-elect believes that Washington should not have allowed strikes 200 miles into Russia and noted that Biden was not consulted before making this decision.

"I don't think it should have been allowed - certainly not a few weeks before I become president. Why did they do it without asking me what I thought? I would not have let them do that. I think they made a big mistake," Trump said, and when asked if he would reconsider this decision when he takes office, the politician said, "Maybe."

  • Trump's inauguration is scheduled for 20 January 2025. The politician did not invite the Ukrainian president.
