On 2 January, the Russians attacked Ukraine with 72 Shahed attack drones and other types of drones from the directions of Bryansk, Orel, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
The defenders shot down 47 drones. Another 24 were lost locally, the Air Force said.
"The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Force and the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
As of 08.30, 47 Shahed attack UAVs and other types of drones were confirmed to have been shot down in Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Kherson and Mykolayiv Regions," the statement said.
