Over the five years of the 9th Verkhovna Rada's work, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has used his veto 46 times. In 70% of cases, the President's proposals were supported by the Parliament, while the rest are pending.

This is stated in a study by CHESNO based on the results of the Rada's work.

The Constitution allows the president to veto a law if the document has flaws in its text. The president has 15 days to do so after the bill is submitted to him for signature. After that, the document is returned to the parliament and MPs must vote for the proposed changes from the president in the text of the future law.

Most often, Zelenskyy vetoed bills that introduced changes to legal policy and sectoral development, and least often he vetoed bills that proposed changes in the areas of security and defence and state building.

If MPs want to override the president's veto, they must collect 300+ votes. This happened only once in this convocation - in the first days of the Rada-9 when the law on temporary investigators and special commissions of the Verkhovna Rada, which provided for the procedure of impeachment of the president, was adopted.
