Today, the government is making a decision to allocate another UAH 7.9 billion for the purchase of drones, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
He noted that these funds will be redirected to the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection, which will handle the necessary purchases.
Shmyhal also stated that in January this year, drone production increased tenfold compared to January 2024.
In 2023 and 2024, Ukraine’s domestic production of artillery tripled, armoured personnel carriers increased fivefold, anti-tank weapons doubled, and ammunition production grew by 2.5 times.
“At the same time, we are now producing about a third of the weapons we need ourselves. The government’s goal is to increase domestic weapons production to at least half of current demand. To achieve this, we have allocated a record amount this year for modernising our defence industry and purchasing weapons,” Shmyhal said.
