According to the Minister of Defence, US aid continued at least as of 3 March. All the aid that was scheduled in packages under the previous Joe Biden administration was going to Ukraine, said Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
‘As of yesterday evening, all the packages were coming. All the aid was received.
‘As of this morning, we have not agreed with the Minister of Defence whether there have been any changes. If there were, I think I would have known about it,’ he said.
At the same time, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the US decision to suspend aid was already in place and was being implemented, The Guardian reports.
‘As you know, the decision was announced to suspend US aid to Ukraine and possibly start lifting sanctions against Russia. We have no reason to believe that these are just words,’ he said.
He added that the reports he receives from the Polish-Ukrainian border and the Polish logistics hub in Rzeszów-Jasionka, which is used for supplies to Ukraine, confirm that the US decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine has been implemented.
Suspension of US aid to Ukraine
- Donald Trump's decision to suspend all military aid to Ukraine has now been announced. This applies to everything that has not yet been delivered to Ukrainian territory, including weapons that were already on their way.
- According to the US press, Trump made the decision after consulting with his closest advisers. A few hours before the information was leaked to the media, Trump announced a ‘big night’ on social media and criticised the Ukrainian president for saying that a peace agreement was still far away.
- The supply halt followed attacks on the Ukrainian president at the White House, where Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance accused him of disrespect, ingratitude and unwillingness to make peace. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the Americans for all the support they have provided and stressed its critical importance. However, he stressed that a simple ceasefire without security guarantees cannot be peace, as Russia has already violated the ceasefire 25 times. Therefore, according to the President, before signing a peace agreement with Russia, it is necessary to determine what guarantees Ukraine will have and who will be responsible for these guarantees.
- The US administration, on the other hand, is pressing Ukraine to agree to ‘peace’ first, and then to receive security guarantees.
