President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video chat with journalists that he had discussed the Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhya NPP with Donald Trump.
“It is in danger because Russia dominates there with weapons. It is not operational because Russia illegally holds and occupies it. The question is whether we can restore it,” Zelenskyy said.
He emphasised that liberating the plant alone is not sufficient — it must have functioning infrastructure, a stable water supply, and technical staff. Many steps are required to ensure it can begin supplying electricity to people within 1.5 to 2.5 years.
In turn, Trump asked about the possibility of the US taking part in restoring the ZNPP.
“I said that we are ready to discuss this with you, but only regarding the one plant that is under temporary occupation,” the head of state assured.
