Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the European Council to update it on the latest developments. Last night, Russia attacked infrastructure again with more than 170 drones, including a massive strike on Kropyvnytskyy in the centre of the country.
Houses, a church, and schools were damaged. Four children were among the wounded.
‘Last night was another Russian attack on our energy infrastructure. We here in Ukraine face this every day and every night. And despite Putin's words that he is ready to stop it, nothing has changed,’ he stressed.
In his address to the European leaders, the President of Ukraine stressed that Ukraine is in great need of support.‘This is especially true for air defence, military assistance and our overall resilience. We need funds for artillery shells, and we would be very grateful for European support in the amount of at least EUR 5 billion as soon as possible. Investment in weapons production is needed both in Ukraine and in your countries. Europe needs technological independence, including in weapons production. Everything needed to defend the continent should be produced here in Europe. We must work on this together,’ the President said.
He urged not to ease pressure on Russia because of the war: not to lift sanctions until the Russian occupiers start leaving Ukraine and fully compensate for the damage.
- The EU's top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, proposes to provide Ukraine with €5 billion worth of ammunition. The original plan was to provide Ukraine with funds, but, according to The Guardian, leaders decided to offer ammunition instead.
- EU leaders are currently meeting for a summit in Brussels.
