Russian troops are focusing their main offensive efforts on the Pokrovsk direction but are failing to achieve success.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyy, following a meeting on the results of the Armed Forces’ activities in March 2025.
“Our main tasks remain to hold the defence lines and stabilise the situation in threatened areas,” he said. Syrskyy added that thanks to the decisions taken and the resilience of Ukrainian soldiers, this task was partially achieved, particularly in the Pokrovsk direction.
“Here, in the operational area of the Donetsk Operation Group, the enemy is concentrating its main offensive efforts but is actually stuck in place,” the Commander-in-Chief noted.
Syrskyy stressed that Ukrainian defenders are employing active defence tactics wherever possible. In some areas of the frontline, they are advancing, improving the tactical situation, restoring dozens of positions, and restraining significant enemy forces.
Since the beginning of March, the artillery of the Defence Forces has carried out approximately 100,000 firing missions, while UAV operators have conducted more than 81,700 special combat missions, including 158 DeepStrike attacks.
During the meeting, Syrskyy heard reports from military command and control leaders on key issues such as unit manning, combat capability restoration, the formation of new army corps, logistics, and military equipment repairs. He also set operational tasks for April.
The Commander-in-Chief highlighted the need to increase the number of fibre-optic drones resistant to enemy electronic warfare. He also assigned tasks for manning combat brigades and emphasised the importance of improving training quality.
“Another important issue under consideration is the maintenance and preparation of weapons for spring and summer operations, enhancing the protection of various types of military equipment from FPV drones, and maximising combat effectiveness,” added Syrskyy.
- The Pokrovsk area in Donetsk Region remains one of the most intense combat zones on the frontline. Over the past year, it has recorded the highest number of engagements.
- During the winter, the Russian army suffered heavy losses near Pokrovsk and temporarily suspended assaults in the area. However, in March, Russian forces sharply intensified their efforts and have now resumed assault operations in the Pokrovsk sector.
- Over the past week, Russia has nearly doubled the number of attacks in the Pokrovsk sector.
