In the first quarter of 2025, the Ministry of Defence allocated nearly UAH 12.3 billion to support combat brigades.
According to the ministry, these funds will be used to acquire unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), electronic warfare systems, vehicles, and other essential equipment to enhance frontline units’ effectiveness.
One key initiative is the “Drone Line” project, launched by the President. Under this programme, the five most successful UAV combat units have been given the autonomy to purchase drones, electronic warfare systems, and vehicles for mobile groups. These drones will play a crucial role in creating a kill zone on the frontline, restricting Russian troop and vehicle movements.
The Ministry of Defence prioritises the rapid funding of combat units. Frontline defenders have the best understanding of immediate operational needs, allowing them to independently determine and prioritise UAV purchases.
“The Ministry of Defence is committed to delivering new Ukrainian drones to combat brigades as quickly as possible. That’s why, at the start of 2025, we revised procurement rules for military units, enabling them to buy both codified and non-codified products through simplified procedures. This accelerated procurement allows brigades to test the best innovative domestic UAV models in combat and recommend them for large-scale adoption by Ukraine’s military and political leadership,” said Hlib Kanevskyy, Director of the Procurement Policy Department at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defence affirms that it will continue directly financing combat brigades, empowering them to independently prioritise their needs and strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
