At around 1 a.m. on Thursday, Russia attacked Kyiv with missiles and drones – air defences were activated. Several explosions were heard in the city, the Kyiv city military administration (KCMA) and the Kyiv regional military administration (RMA) reported.
As of 10:30 a.m., eight people were killed and 77 injured in the capital.
“Seventy-seven people have sought medical help. Thirty-one victims are in hospitals. A total of 12 buildings were damaged in the night attack. The city is providing assistance to residents of damaged residential buildings. A support point for the victims has been set up in the Svyatoshynskyy district,” he said.
Rescuers continue to clear the rubble from two damaged buildings in the Svyatoshynskyy district.
At least 42 victims had to be hospitalised. The youngest victim is one and a half years old.
“Destruction has been recorded in Svyatoshynskyy, Holosiyivskyy, Shevchenkivskyy, Pecherskyy and Solomyanskyy districts of the capital. Residential and non-residential buildings, catering facilities, vehicles, and a metro station were damaged. In the Svyatoshynskyy district, a rocket hit destroyed a residential building and damaged neighbouring ones,” police said in the morning.
As of 8:30 a.m., according to the head of the KCMA, the consequences were as follows:
- in the Holosiyivskyy district, a car caught fire in the yard of a residential building, there was a fire in a garage co-operative, debris fell on the territory of non-residential buildings, a fire on the territory of a housing co-operative, where garages and a two-storey administrative building were partially destroyed
- in the Shevchenkivskyy district, garages and non-residential buildings were on fire, an administrative building was destroyed, a UAV fell in an open area
- Svyatoshynskyy: a house was on fire and partially destroyed, with people trapped under the rubble. There was also a car fire in the yard of a house, a fire in a non-residential building, destruction on the territory of a garage co-operative, a building fire, partial destruction and fire of a one-storey residential building, a fire in a non-residential building
- a UAV crashed in the Solomyanskyy district in an open area
- in the Obolonskyy district, grass flooring and nine cars caught fire, there was a fire on the roof of a non-residential building, a fire in a warehouse and damage to nearby cars
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the Lukyanivska metro station was also damaged once again.
Tkachenko added that ballistic missiles attacked the city from different directions.
“There were hits to civilian infrastructure. I have no other details yet, and I urge you to wait with the details and not to publish the consequences of the enemy attack. Stay in shelters!” he urged, warning that the threat remains.
Klitschko called the Svyatoshynskyy district the most affected – there were fires in six locations and widespread destruction.
- At the same time, Russians attacked not only the capital but also Kharkiv. The military also reported a missile attack on Pavlohrad.
- Russia launched the combined air attack the night after Ukraine’s talks with European and US representatives on ways to achieve a full or at least partial ceasefire.
