Naftogaz Group and Polish company ORLEN have signed a new agreement for the supply of 100 million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
This is reported by the press service of Naftogaz.
It is noted that this is the third contract within the partnership concluded in the spring of this year. The total volume of contracted gas is 300 million cubic metres.
The signing of the contract was announced at the annual ORLEN GAS Meeting, a leading industry event dedicated to the region's energy security.
"This supply further strengthens the energy partnership between our companies and contributes to providing a reliable resource for Ukrainian consumers. We are already preparing for the next heating season, and such contracts are an important part of our strategy to diversify supplies and ensure the country's energy stability," commented Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group.
The gas will be supplied from the United States, regasified at the terminal in Świnoujście (Poland) and transported to Ukraine via the Polish gas transmission system.
- In March, Poland delivered liquefied natural gas to its territory for the first time. The Lech Kaczynski gas carrier (the first of the Orlen Group's fleet of gas carriers) called at the port of Świnoujście with 70,000 tonnes of cargo. Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin said it was a ‘breakthrough day’ and that the country had now built its independence and energy sovereignty.
- In early March, Naftogaz also agreed to supply 100 million cubic metres of LNG from a shipment that was delivered to a terminal in Klaipeda, Lithuania. After being transported through the GIPL pipeline connecting Lithuania and Poland, the gas is delivered through Polish territory to the interconnector on the Ukrainian border in Drozdovychi, where it is received by Naftogaz.
- The second batch of US LNG, contracted on 18 March, was delivered to the terminal in Świnoujście. Naftogaz will use this gas to create a strategic fuel reserve for the next heating season.
