SBU drones have struck Russian strategic aviation, sources told LB.ua. According to updated information, four airfields were targeted: Belaya, Olenya, Ivanovo and Dyagilevo.
According to LB.ua’s sources within the Defence Forces, on 1 June the Security Service of Ukraine launched a large-scale special operation named Spider’s Web to eliminate the bombers stationed in Russia’s rear.
“The SBU drones are targeting aircraft that bomb Ukrainian cities every night. So far, more than 40 aircraft have been hit, including A-50, Tu-95 and Tu-22M3,” the sources stated.
In particular, aircraft were struck at the Belaya airfield in Irkutsk Region and the Olenya airfield in Murmansk Region. The damage to Russian aircraft is preliminarily estimated at over $2 billion.
Footage has also emerged showing Russian military airfields ablaze as a result of the special operation. The video captures the moment of the drone strike on Russian aircraft.
According to the sources, the operation was personally led by SBU Head Vasyl Malyuk and overseen by Supreme Commander-in-Chief President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The sources indicated that the operation had been in preparation for a year and a half.
“The SBU initially sent FPV drones into Russia, followed by mobile wooden houses. Inside Russian territory, the drones were concealed beneath the roofs of these houses, which had been placed on trucks. At the appropriate moment, the roofs were remotely opened, allowing the drones to launch and strike Russian bombers,” the sources said.
