Ukrainian art book awarded silver at European Design Awards 2025

In his illustrations, Sergiy Maidukov depicts the events of the first years of the full-scale invasion of 2022–2023.

The Ukrainian art book Zagrava by illustrator Sergiy Maidukov (ist publishing) has received a silver award at the European Design Awards 2025 in the Book Illustration category.

The publishing house announced the award on its Facebook page.

The ceremony took place on 7 June in Ljubljana. The art book documents experiences spanning from early February 2022 – when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine – to the intense shelling of May 2023.

Sergiy Maidukov is an illustrator based in Kyiv. His clients include Google, Adobe, the British Royal Academy of Dance, Kyiv Central Department Store and various other brands and corporations. He collaborates with international magazines and media outlets, including The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, among others. Maidukov has also illustrated several books, including The Executed Renaissance (Osnovy)2001: A Space Odyssey (Moppet Books), and is the author of the art book KYIV by Sergiy Maidukov. Some of his illustrations are preserved in the Library of Congress (USA).

The European Design Awards (ED-Awards) is one of the principal annual events in Europe dedicated to communication design. The competition originated as a joint initiative of leading European design magazines and the International Council of Design, ico-D (Icograda). Established in 2007, the ED-Awards ceremony and design festival are held each year in a different European city.
