Children and teenagers from Kharkiv had the opportunity to personally communicate with Pope Leo XIV, who received a delegation of 32 young Ukrainians in the Vatican.

According to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the children’s visit to the city-state was made possible with the assistance of the Kharkiv Exarchate of the UGCC, Caritas Ukraine and Italian humanitarian organisations.

During the audience, the Kharkiv residents presented the Pope with a photograph of a girl, Mariya, who died with her mother during one of the shelling attacks on the city. In response, the pontiff said that he always prays for Ukrainian children and promised to “never forget about Ukraine”.

  • The Vatican Secretary of State discussed the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia with the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
