Pilots of the 59th Brigade of Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed a Russian Mi helicopter with an FPV drone. This was reported by SBS Commander Robert Brovdi (‘Magyar’) on 29 September.
He also published a video of the strike. It shows the helicopter catching fire and crashing.
According to updated information, it was a Mi-8 helicopter, not a Mi-28, as previously reported.
‘Further reconnaissance revealed that it was a Mi-8, not a Mi-28. The key phrase is: shot down by an FPV drone,’ Brovdi commented.
Shooting down a helicopter with an FPV drone is a rare operation. According to Sternenko, the Mi-8 has only been shot down once with the help of an FPV drone.
The Mi-8 is one of the most common helicopters, designed for both military and civilian tasks.
