President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that the strike on the enemy’s military-industrial facilities in Cheboksary was carried out using Flamingo missiles. They flew over 1,500 kilometres.
In a post on Telegram, the president noted that Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” remain in effect in response to Russian strikes. In addition to Cheboksary, F-5 Flamingo missiles struck other targets overnight.
“The targeted military production facility manufactured relay protection systems, automation equipment and low-voltage apparatus. The plant supplied navigation components to the Russian Navy, the missile industry, aviation and armoured vehicles — everything the Russians are using in the war against us, against Ukraine. Russia must end its war and move towards real diplomacy. We have made our proposal,” he said.
The proposal in question involves a ceasefire from midnight on 6 May. The President made the statement in response to the Kremlin’s announcement of a ceasefire on 8 and 9 May — when it will hold its parade. For the first time in many years, Russia has refused to include military equipment in the parade and has also threatened a new strike on Kyiv if Ukraine does not observe the ceasefire on the dates set by Moscow.
For context
The Flamingo missiles are manufactured by Fire Point, which has recently found itself at the centre of a scandal following its appearance in Mindich’s videos. According to information obtained by UP, Timur Mindich, who is suspected of organising a corruption scheme, discussed with the then Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov the attraction of investment specifically for this defence manufacturer.
Both Mindich and Fire Point have denied any connection with one another. The manufacturer suggests that its involvement in the corruption scandal is an attempt by competitors to discredit it.
The Public Council under the Ministry of Defence stated that if a link between Fire Point and Mindich is proven, the company will lose its contracts, as the businessman is subject to sanctions. The Public Council has proposed to the president that Fire Point be partially nationalised.
