The main suspect in the bomb explosion that injured Ukrainian businessman Vadym in Monaco on Monday is 39-year-old Ukrainian Anastasiia Berezovska, who, according to investigators, disguised herself as a man for the attempted assassination, CNN reports, citing local authorities.
She was last known to be living in Germany and has a tattoo—possibly a snake—running along her right arm from shoulder to elbow.
It is noted that after the attack, the suspect fled to neighboring France and then drove to Italy in a car with German plates that had been rented for the operation, prosecutors added.
Law enforcement believe the sophistication of the bomb used indicates that more than one perpetrator was involved. Earlier, two men were arrested in Monaco before being released due to a lack of evidence.
As CNN notes, such crimes are extremely rare in Monaco, which is half the size of Central Park in New York but has 556 police officers and 1,387 surveillance cameras monitoring the area. It is so safe that last year there were no murders or even attempted murders.
So the attack, which prosecutors believe was carefully planned, has shaken the city-state.
