On 25 July 2026 in Lisbon, at Cinema São Jorge, the PROMIN’ Festival will take place — a festival of contemporary Ukrainian cinema and video art that will present an international audience with a selection of documentary and fiction films, video art, and discussions.
The festival will open with the documentary We Will Not Fade Away by director Alisa Kovalenko. It is the story of teenagers from Donbas coming of age on the eve of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The programme also includes the short video artwork Declaration of Intention and Doubt by artist Anna Zvyahentseva, followed by a conversation with the artist, as well as the documentary Quiet Flood by Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk, dedicated to the aftermath of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant and its impact on people and the environment.
A separate highlight will be a screening of the video work Explosions Near the Museum by Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimen, filmed at the Kherson Regional Museum after it was looted by Russian occupying forces. After the screening, viewers will be able to join an Artist Talk.
An important part of the festival will be the special programme Delayed Premiere: Ukrainian Films About Art of the 1990s, bringing together three rare short films by Ukrainian directors:
- Delayed Premiere (1995), dir. Yuriy Ryepik;
- Portrait Without a Face (1993), dir. Yuriy Zmorovych;
- Victory Over the Sun. Epilogue (1994), dir. Maksym Bernadskyy.
The screening will be accompanied by an open discussion about Ukrainian art of the 1990s, its legacy, and its relevance today.
In the festival’s evening programme — the documentary by Yehor Troyanovskyy Cuba & Alaska, which tells the story of two Ukrainian service members with the call signs “Cuba” and “Alaska” as they return from the front to civilian life.
The festival will close with the feature film Honeymoon by director Zhanna Ozirna — an intimate story of a young couple who face the first days of the full-scale invasion in their own apartment as the occupiers close in on the building.
PROMIN’ festival is an international cultural platform presenting contemporary Ukrainian art in a European context. The festival brings together a film programme, exhibition projects, performances, and public discussions, creating space for dialogue between Ukrainian artists and local communities. PROMIN’ focuses on themes of memory, decoloniality, war, identity, and social transformation, while underscoring the role of culture as a tool for solidarity and international cooperation.
