Today, 27 July, it became known that the death toll from the Russian strike on the Kyiv region on 24 July has increased. A wounded 66-year-old man died in hospital.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reported this.
“As a result of his injuries, a 66-year-old man died in hospital — a citizen of Ukraine and a diplomat of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Thus, the total number of victims of the enemy attack has risen to 11,” they said.
The Prosecutor General’s Office also noted that the court is choosing a preventive measure for the suspected organiser of the exhibition. The prosecution is insisting on detention without the right to post bail.
What is known about the strike
- On 24 July m, the Russians attacked with ballistic missiles the venue of a weapons exhibition in the Kyiv Region. As a result of the strike on the Region, ten people were killed and about 100 were injured.
- In connection with the Russian strike, criminal proceedings were opened under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition to investigating a war crime, proceedings were also launched regarding possible improper performance of official duties during the organisation and conduct of the event that led to deaths and other consequences.
- The event organiser was detained and served with a notice of suspicion for official negligence.
- The Prosecutor General’s Office said that one of the arms manufacturers’ associations, without approval from the military command, the regional and district military administrations, or other authorised bodies, organised a large-scale event involving military personnel, representatives of state bodies, international partners, and business.
- The event program, in particular, included a demonstration of air defence systems.
- According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, more than 300 participants were invited to the open-air location. The nearest shelter, with an area of only 34 square meters, was located about 100 meters from the event site, which, in the investigators’ assessment, created obvious risks to people’s safety.
- People were invited to the event nine days before it took place, and the exact location and time were provided a day before it began. Law enforcement is checking whether these actions could have contributed to Russian forces gaining the opportunity to prepare a targeted strike.
