Ukraine should not pay heed to Iran’s threats after strikes on vessels in the Caspian Sea, because any military logistics that supplies the Russian army is a legitimate military target.
Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said this on the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.
Commenting on Tehran’s statements, Pletenchuk noted that Iran is a state that not only politically supports Russia but also directly contributes to its military capabilities.
“In such situations people often say: ‘Let them wash it down with cold water.’ It’s probably very hot there, and they simply don’t have any water,” he said.
According to the Navy spokesperson, Iran provided Russia with kamikaze drones, helped scale up their production on Russian territory, and took part in training drone operators.
“A country that supports another enemy not only in words but directly as well—by providing it with such an instrument of terror as kamikaze drones, scaling up their production on its territory, and training operators—its opinion is probably the last thing that should concern us in such a situation,” Pletenchuk stressed.
He emphasised that any military logistics facilities used to supply Russian forces are legitimate targets under the laws and customs of war.
According to Pletenchuk, if Ukrainian intelligence—which operates, among other things, at the international level—receives information about such facilities, the response by Ukraine’s Defence Forces is entirely natural.
