The names of the Women in Arts prize winners have been announced.
The theme of this year’s ceremony is hope, the organisers reported.
“The artists who received the award work every day to ensure that Ukrainian culture, too, has hope. This year’s statuettes went to those who build infrastructure, set the direction, and connect the past, present, and future,” the organisers emphasised.
Over seven years, the prize has honored more than 50 laureates, and we thank each one whose daily choice to invest in Ukrainian culture restores hope to society.
In the “Women in Visual Arts” category, the winner was interdisciplinary artist, curator, and researcher Oksana Bryukhovetska, who works with textiles, feminist themes, and historical memory.
The winner in literature was writer and historian Olena Styazhkina, author of the war-related books Cecil the Lion's Death Made Sense and Zelman’s Boot.
Recognised as the best in music was Nata Zhyzhchenko, frontwoman of the band ONUKA and founder of the art space Fabrychna, 12 in Chernihiv.
In the “Women in Film” category, the award went to director and screenwriter Kateryna Hornostai, whose documentary Timestamp competed for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.
In the field of performing arts, the honor was awarded to Lieutenant of the National Guard of Ukraine and volunteer Olena Apchel.
The winner in the “Women in Cultural Management” category was Alyona Karavay, founder of the Asortymentna Kimnata gallery and the ilostmylibrary project.
In cultural journalism, criticism, and research, the award went to literary scholar, NaUKMA lecturer, and co-author of Kult.Podcast Tetyana Oharkova.
The jury’s special award was presented to war veteran, medical service sergeant, and combat medic Inna “Korolyok” Korolenko, who after serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been involved in veterans’ theater and adaptive sports.
