Ukraine has tested its own ballistic missile with considerable success. It hit the target precisely and with almost no deviation from its trajectory, former defence minister Mykhaylo Fedorov said on Serhiy Sternenko’s podcast.
Now the trials must be completed and combat use should begin. Work on the project has lasted about ten years.
“On the day I was dismissed, we had just tested a state project that had been in development for ten years but couldn’t reach a proper result: the technical specifications were wrong, there was no team, lots of problems...” he said.
Fedorov added that the best way to counter Russian ballistic strikes would be to carry out similar strikes on their launchers. Then Russia would understand that within a few minutes after launch, the entire crew firing the missile would be killed by a ballistic strike.
There are other operations as well, but they will not be as effective as ballistic strikes on launchers, he added.
The former minister did not name the Ukrainian-made ballistic weapon. It is known that ballistic weapons are being developed under several projects: the older Sapsan and a newer one by Fire Point. RBC-Ukraine writes that a prototype of the was shown back in 2018.
